Small Beginnings

Karrek Community was founded by Paul & Geeta Ashton at the request of a number of Christians who were concerned about the future support arrangements for people with disabilities in Cornwall. Their desire was to ensure that there remains a choice in support provider for people who may wish to be supported by an organisation that is motivated by the Christian faith.

Following a number of meetings and conversations Paul & Geeta agreed to start a new Company that would meet the needs of a current group of people but also provide a choice for future generations who would wish to be supported in a Christian environment.

Karrek was formed as a direct result of local peoples views being heard and acted upon. The key challenge was to ensure that the company has a strong Christian ethos whilst at the same time operates in an inclusive way, welcoming anyone equally regardless of circumstances & background.

The company was formed in June 2014 and following registration with The Care Quality Commission in November 2014; started operating in May 2015.

Paul & Geeta both have a background in leadership and Christian service.

Geeta has a missionary background having left her home in Mauritius at the age of 17 to work in a mission organisation in Italy. She attended Bible School in USA and was ordained as a minister in the Salvation Army. She has worked in a wide range of projects including street evangelism, woman trafficking, homelessness, church leadership and children and youth ministry. She also has management experience in the UK care sector.

Paul originally trained as a nurse and followed a career in the NHS where after a number years became Director of Nursing followed by CEO of an NHS Trust. Paul become CEO of a national Christian Charity in 2000 where he served for 14 years. He has operational & board experience with a number of Charity’s and voluntary organisation. He has experience of church leadership & governance.

Paul & Geeta moved to Cornwall to follow a call to serve people with learning disabilities and their families.

They are passionate about working with people who often live at the margins of society and therefore may live with very low self-esteem.

Paul & Geeta are seeking to serve the churches in Cornwall to enable them to engage with this particular group of people.
